Day trip to Le Mont St Michel
Ever since I saw the first photograph of Mont St Michel years ago, I have wanted to visit. Just seeing the gorgeous cathedral rise to its majestic pinnacle above the seafloor was inspiring.
So my dream became a reality yesterday, May 28. I traveled to Mont St Michel from Rennes early Saturday morning by bus, then train, and then bus again. It was an absolutely gorgeous day and the abbey shone like gold.
One thing I did not anticipate (but should have), was the number of other people also visiting. It was like a pilgrimage! Thousands upon thousands of people were making their trek to Mont St Michel that same beautiful day.
Being fairly adverse to crowds, especially during Covid season #1,999 and the confined space on that small island, left me to choose to donate my entry fee to the abbey and instead appreciate its beauty from below. It wasn’t a huge disappointment because, to be honest, I really just always wanted to see it from the outside. Perhaps I’m not Catholic enough!
The walk around the island of Mont St Michel is incredible. I somehow luckily arrived at low tide. Apparently there is a 10m difference between low and high tides, so you could not even see the sea at low tide.
Excellent pics and videos on St Michel.
Gorgeous, thanks for the effort you put out to get these pictures.
